Chennai: The Pedestrian Plaza that was recently inaugurated at Pondy Bazaar, now has another added attraction – music concerts.
According to sources from the civic body, the four-stage plaza that covers from Panagal Park till Anna Salai junction at Teynampet, will see performances by various artistes.
Speaking on this, an official said, “Carnatic, Western music concerts and children’s programmes, are being held with support from NGOs. Colourful lights are set up all through the plaza.”
“At six locations, LED television sets have been installed to highlight the welfare schemes of the State to visitors and cultural events will be held every evening at 7 pm,” he added.
These developments have resulted in residents turning up in large numbers to enjoy their evenings here. ”This is a good initiative taken by the Corporation,” commented Vincent Raj, a regular here.
“After a hectic shopping session at the plaza, attending these programmes is stress-busting. The authorities should continue to introduce similar events here,” he said.
Introduction of one-way traffic and entry from Teynampet side, has also decongested the area considerably and seems to help the pedestrians have a smooth walk. Also, other features like electric cars, smart bikes (cycles), that are being operated at the Smart City space, also see considerable patronage.
