Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth is very humble and down-to-earth, says actress Nivetha Thomas. Speaking to News Today, the actress says, “Working with him in Darbar was a delight. Even though I observed Rajini sir during the making of the film, watching his energy in the trailer still amazed me.”
Darbar, directed by A R Murugadoss and bankrolled by Lyca International, hits the screens 9 January. Nayanthara, Yogi Babu and Sunil Shetty form part of the cast. Nivetha plays Rajini’s daughter in the movie. Interestingly, Nivetha Thomas acted as Kamal Haasan’s daughter in Papansam and Mohanlal’s daughter in Jilla.
Excerpts from her interview
Q: On being part of a Rajini film…
A: I met him during the photoshoot of Darbar initially. He was humble in spite of his tall stature. A doting father in real life, he showered immense love on me. Though he is 70 years, he is still agile. He does workout twice a day. I learnt a lot observing him. He spreads positive energy to people around.
Q: What did you learn from Rajini?
A: His simplicity. Though we shot amidst the crowd in Mumbai, he was not worried about anything. People would gather every day to cheer him at the shooting spots. He always welcomed them with a smile. Watching him at the Darbar audio launch made me understand that I had acted in a film with a legend of cinema.
Q: How was it to play daughter for top stars in south cinema.
A: It is a blessing in disguise to have done films with Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. I was floored by Mohanlal’s passion for cinema and Kamal Haasan’s desire for perfection on screen. Rajinikanth was bubbly and energetic. He is a fun-loving person.
Q: What are your forthcoming films?
A: I am currently busy with a few Telugu films opposite top actors in Tollywood. I am listening to some good scripts in Tamil cinema. I want to excel in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
