
Chennai: In a bid to attract the Indian market, Tourism Selangor along with Tourism Malaysia and UBM India addressed media persons here in Chennai to speak about their plans for the year 2020.
According to a press release, State of Selangor is all set to foster the campaign through its own initiatives introducing Selangor and its tourist attractions to potential travelers across the globe. The ultimate mission of the campaign is to bring in about one million Indian tourists, the release added.
‘It is an enormous challenge for us to accomplish our target of bringing in about one million Indian tourists. However, I’m sure, with all the support, we would achieve it,’ said director, Tourism Malaysia Chennai, Abdul Raheem. Deputy director, Tourism Malaysia Chennai, Logithasan said, ‘Approximately, about 70 per cent of the Indian tourists in Malaysia are from South India due to inescapable factors like family and historical ties. Thus the South Indian market becoming crucial for Malaysia.’
‘It is our aspiration to build a fundamental relationship between Tourism Selangor and tourism industry players in India’, said Promotion and Industrial Development Manager of Tourism Selangor, Khuzaimah Jamaluddin. ‘For 2020, the state desires to welcome tourists from India by a minimum hike of 5 per cent,’ she added.
The event in Chennai saw the participation of delegates from Selangor along with various State operators including Sky Mirror, Sunway Resort, Sunway Lagoon, De Palma group of Hotels. They will also take part in South Asia’s Leading Travel Show (SATTE 2020) at New Delhi, co-organized by Tourism Malaysia Delhi and headed by deputy minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, YB Tuan Muhammad Bakhtiar Bin Wan Chik.
