Woman murdered at  New Washermenpet


Chennai: A man was arrested by city police for assaulting three women in New Washermenpet, in which one of the victims died at a hospital in the wee hours of today.

The accused was identified as Chandrasekar (40), a resident of Ambedkar Nagar. He worked as a van driver. Police said, last night he parked his van outside his house and slept in it.

At 2 am, three women- Dhanalakshmi (37), her mother Rathinavel (58) and daughter Shalini (20) picked up an argument with him. They broke the windshield of his van, which angered him.

Chandrasekar went inside his house, took a kitchen knife and assaulted the three women. Subsequently, they were rushed to Government Stanley Hospital, where Rathinavel passed away.

Police said, the fight was due to a relationship between Dhanalakshmi and Chandrasekar which recently turned sour. Chandrasekar was married to one Yuvarani with whom he has two teenage children. However, the couple separated.

He later began a relationship with Dhanalakshmi who lived near his house. The relationship strained in the last two months which resulted in the fight. Police arrested Chandrasekar and registered a case.
