Chennai: The Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) is conducting inquiries with a man who is allegedly involved in the Tamilnadu Public Service (TNPSC) scam. The accused, identified as Ayyappan of Radhapuram, Tirunelveli, runs a saloon there.

He allegedly paid agents a huge sum of money for clearing the TNPSC Group IV exam. Yesterday, he surrendered before a court in Sathankulam, Thoothukudi. He is currently in 15-day police custody.

Meanwhile, Jayakumar and Omkanthan, the two main accused in the scam, reportedly made many startling revelations to the CB-CID officials during interrogation and dropped the names of a few big shots, stating that they were involved in the racket. ‘Based on this, some key arrests are likely to be made, sources said.

So far, over 47 people, including agents, government staff and candidates have been arrested. Jayakumar is said to be the kingpin of the scam. He was helped by Omkanthan, a Record Clerk. On 24 February, the CB-CID’s custody of Jayakumar and Omkanthan will conclude.

Jayakumar of Mugappair is said to have taken Rs 5.83 crore from various candidates who wanted to clear the TNPSC exam through fraud.
