Chennai, Mar 4: The stormwater drainage work which has been left mid-way at the Medavakkam-Ullagaram stretch, has restricted the flow of vehicles here. Sources said, the sides of the roads were damaged to lay stormwater drainage three months ago.

”The work has not been completed yet. To make things worse, the mud that was dug out, has been dumped on the sides of the road, further reducing the width of the already congested stretch,” said Kamalesh, a resident.

Srikanth, another resident, said that the widening of the nine kilometre- Medavakkam Main Road, began ten years ago.

”Work progressed at a snail’s pace due to various problems including land acquisition. Road has been extended in few places and is narrow in some, leading to bottle-neck traffic,” he added.

Not just the commuters, shopkeepers and their customers too undergo hardships due to this.
”Ever since the road was dug up, people are not able to park their vehicles. They are forced to leave it on the road, further leading to space crunch. We are not able to bring in goods to our store, as we are using temporary steps to cross the gap between the shop and the road. I hope the work is completed at the earliest,” said Ramani, a shopkeeper.
