Hernia carnival 2020 gets underway


Conference will update surgeons on recent innovations in field, says Dr C Palaniv

Chennai, Mar 6: More than 700 delegates and international faculties are participating in three-day conference – Herina carnival 2020 – organised by GEM Hospital.

Gandhiniketan Ashram president R Venkataswami inaugurated the conference here Thursday in the presence of Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash and National Board of Examination vice-president and IMA honorary professor, Dr Shiva K Misra.

Doctors of international repute across the globe will be sharing their knowledge and there will be live surgeries, a press release said. ‘The Hernia carnival is an opportunity to witness all minimally invasive techniques in hernia surgery. This conference will help surgeons to innovate, build, apply and refine techniques enabling an unleashing feast to their knowledge. This conference aims at trying to update the surgeons regarding the recent innovations in the field, to train the new surgeons in laparoscopic hernia surgery, to try to answer the doubts that are encountered in day-to-day practice and to deal with unexpected scenarios.” said GEM Hospitals chairman, Dr C Palanivelu.

‘The highlights of the conference shall be live surgical workshops, the orations by the masters in the field, video sessions of the latest techniques,’ said GEM Hospital director and CEO, Dr S Asokan.

”As a part of the Hernia carnival, the hospital conducted Hernia Awareness Week at our hospital from 24 February till 1 March. Free consultation was provided for hernia patients during the camp.
