
Chennai: A remembrance meeting for Justice P R Gokulakrishnan who passed away last month was organised by Tamil Isai Sangam at Raja Annamalai Mandram here Monday.
Justice Gokulakrishnan was the Chief Justice of Gujarat High and also former acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
Tamil Isai Sangam honorary secretary A C Muthiah recalled the legacy of Gokulakrishnan, as a Chief Justice and twice as the Governor of Gujarat.
Tamil Isai Sangam trustee P Lakshmanan said Gokulakrishnan hailed from an agrarian family and faced lots of difficulties to reach great heights in life.
He also added that Gokulakrishnan had special love towards Tamil and had served as Tamil Isai Sangam president for nearly 24 years.
‘Gokulakrishnan had received a rare honour from then Gujarat Cabinet, which accorded him a farewell when he retired as Chief justice of Gujarat High Court and the government asked him to serve for few more years which he refused due to his wife’s health conditions. The incident proved to be a great honour to Tamilnadu,’ he said.
Abhinaya Natyalaya founder-director Krishnakumari Narendran and Professor M Thangarasu also spoke. The family members of Gokulakrishnan, students of Tamil Isai College were present on the occasion.
