PV retail sales fall 1.17% in February

Chennai, Mar 16: With transitionary demand for BS-IV vehicles crawling in until 31 March, passenger vehicle (PV) registrations saw a year-on-year drop of 1.17 per cent to 2,26,271 units in February 2020, as per the data shared by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) based on VAHAN.

Total vehicle registration numbers at regional transport offices (RTOs), which are a proxy for sales was up by 2.60 per cent at 17,11,711 units in February, according to a report of the dealer’s lobby.

With retail sales remaining in green across all segments barring passenger vehicle segment, commercial vehicles (CV) segment saw an uptick of 13 per cent with 92,805 units as compared to 82,129 units in the same period last year.

With less than a month left for a complete shift to BS-VI emission norms, two-wheelers reported an uptick of 1.52 per cent at 12,85,398 units this month, down from 12,66,163 units in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, the increase in retail sales remained highest for three-wheelers at 65,752 units in February 2020, up 20.7 per cent from 54,474 units in the same period last year.

Tractors saw an increase at 13.52 percent with 41,485 units last month.
