
Chennai: The Rotary Foundation under its district grant provided 30 desks and one solar lamp each to the 70 Single Teacher Schools (STS) located in Kanchipuram District.
According to a press release, STS, a unit of Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society provides the much needed value based education to over 30,000 primary school children in over 1,000 rural villages in 9 districts of Tamilnadu.
At a function held here recently, Jawahar Vidyalaya correspondent A S Naryana Rao talked about the service provided by Single Teacher Schools and even volunteered to support with his personal contribution.
Ambalavanan of District Rotary Foundation lauded Single Teacher Schools for bringing back the importance of value education to the villages.
The desk and solar lamp were given to five Single Teacher Schools, which were represented by their teachers and respective students, the release said.
