Chennai: The State police have collected Rs 14, 47,944 as fine from violators during the ongoing lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic.
This is a massive surge when compared to the numbers three days ago.
The number of violators currently stand at 39,124. As part of remedial steps taken to impose Section-144 in the State, the police have arrested 38,387 persons and seized around 28,040 vehicles. FIRs were filed against 34,178 persons.
The police wonder why the violators are increasing despite informing them to stay indoors.
On 29 March the number of violators was just 20,497, and the fines collected was Rs 5,25,000. On 24 March, the State entered a lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus.
The government ordered that people stay indoors and step out only to get essentials. The State police have been working hard to restrict people movement on roads.
