Chennai: Unnecessary movement of vehicles is one of the biggest problems that the police face during this lockdown period.
Despite so many warnings and instructions not to leave their houses unnecessarily, people always find a reason to roam out on the streets.
In a move to help the police monitor the movement of vehicles, an aerospace engineer Mahaveer, son of former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Tamil University, Thanjavur, Baskaran and Nagarathinam, has developed an app called as TN Vehicle Check.
He said the app was developed based on the request made by the Thanjavur DIG Loganathan.
This app is currently in use in three districts – Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.
”This app is connected to the server of police control room in these districts.
A cop can enter a vehicle number in the app which will send a message to the server through Telegram. Following this the app will display the routes which the vehicle has travelled (based on inputs from police personnel in various spots). If it is found that the vehicle has travelled unnecessarily it can be seized and fine can be imposed on the motorist as well,” he added.
Mahaveer also said the App has been developed to ensure that people come out of their houses only to buy essentials and to make sure that violators are punished.
”The app will give the exact detail of the vehicle movement including the date and time.Journalists, police and doctors can also register themselves in the app and they will be exempted,” he said.
He added that this will reduce the burden of the cops as they do not have to unnecessarily question the motorists.
”All they have to do is enter the vehicle number in the app and take a decision based on the movement,” he added.
Mahaveer said he had developed this app in just six hours and it was implemented in 24 hours.
