TN’s corona count crosses 1000, death toll at 11, 106 fresh cases

Chennai: The number of coronavirus cases crossed the 1,000 mark in Tamilnadu with 106 more people testing positive on Sunday, even as the death toll due to the pandemic stood at 11, with the death of a middle-aged woman in the city.

Speaking to reporters, Health Secretary Dr Beela Rajesh said the number of positive cases in the state increased from 969 to 1,075, which included eight doctors.

According to her, 90 of the 106 cases tested positive on Sunday were linked to Nizamuddin Markaz religious conference in Delhi.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman from Pulianthope in Chennai died at the Omandurar Multispeciality Government hospital, taking the toll to 11. The woman died at 7.30 pm after she developed severe breathing problems and failed to respond to the treatment.

Health department sources said the 45-year-old woman, tested positive for Covid-19 after she was admitted to the hospital on 5 April, three days after her husband, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat meet in Delhi, tested positive.

The woman did not have any co-morbidites and she developed severe chest congestion last evening. She was immediately put on ventilator, but died later, despite the best of treatment by the doctors. Her husband, who was undergoing treatmet in the adjacent ward, was informed about her death.
