Chennai: Despite stringent vigil being maintained by the police due to lockdown, a young man was murdered by a gang over a missing two-wheeler at K K Nagar. The victim was identified as Akash Maduraiveeran (25) of Kattupakkam.
Police arrested four persons identified as Ramachandran (20), a student of MGR University, Abhishek (20), an AC mechanic, Santhoshkumar (20), an electrician who works on film sets and Deena (20). All of them live in K K Nagar.
Police said, in February, Ramachandran had filed a complaint at K K Nagar police station that his two-wheeler was missing.
They had learnt through friends that Akash and his friend Tamilselvan (19) of Chinna Porur were using the vehicle.
On 12 April at 3 pm, the gang spotted Tamilselvan and asked for the vehicle, to which he said that it was with Akash in his house at Kattupakkam.
The two friends were later brought to Ramachandranâs house in Kannigapuram, 14th Sector, K K Nagar, where Akash and Tamilselvan were beaten with logs asking them to return the bike. The gang then locked up an injured Akash in a room.
After a while, Tamilselvan asked for some water. When they also tried to give Akash water, they found him unconscious. Ramachandran asked his mother, Valarmathi to check on him, while they all left the spot.
She called the ambulance and the para-medics who came to the spot declared him dead. His body was sent to Omandurar Government Hospital for post mortem. K K Nagar police arrested the four men this morning.
