Beware, you may put more weight this lockdown

A meme that makes fun at gaining weight during lockdown.

Chennai: The nation has seen 21 days lockdown and it is now extended for another 20 days. Many are working from home, while colleges and schools have been closed.

Doctors say this period may lead to a craving for eating more and a majority may end up putting up additional weight. To avoid such a situation, people should eat more fruits and vegetables.

Speaking to News Today, Dr Ramkumar, says, “children spend their maximum time before television sets while youngsters are glued to their mobile phones whole day. They eat whenever they feel like. But since they are restricted to their homes, they hardly take efforts to burn the calories. They end up putting more weight.”

Lack of physical labour is another reason. Industries and other commercial establishments are closed. Parks, Corporation gymnasiums are locked. Hence there is very little chance for people to keep them active by taking a morning walk or doing light workouts. As a result, they may end up adding at least seven kilograms by May, warns Dr Ramkumar.

The best way out is do light floor exercises at home. Try doing yoga. Sleep is very important. Early to bed and early to rise is good. Avoid watching your mobiles phone late nights, he adds.

Drink hot water at regular intervals. Help elders in domestic chores. It will keep you active and engaged, adds Dr Ramkumar.

Healthy mind in a healthy body. We have to increase our body immunity. Hence we should try to add turmeric, pepper more in our daily diet. Also one should never get stressed staying at home. S/he can do whatever they like say painting, writing poems or short stories. If we keep ourselves engaged in a constructive way, our mind will be happy and do will be our body, he concludes.
