Chennai: A week after a Delhi-based Covid-19-positive man went missing from a Villupuram hospital and a nationwide alert was sounded to nab him, a special police team from Villupuram traced him to Pattalam in Chengalpattu district on Tuesday.
He was released from quarantine from the Villupuram Government Hospital due to a ‘clerical error’ and the news sent shockwaves across the State.
A team led by Superintendent of Police S Jayakumar found him at a lorry terminal situated between Maduranthakam and Pattalam. Jayakumar said, “He was found at Padalam in Chengalpattu, where he has been staying for the past three days.”
On 7 April, four people were discharged from the government quarantine facility in Villupuram prematurely. Later, when their test results came back positive for Covid-19, the police jumped into action to find them. While they were able to find three, the fourth person fell off their radar.
Based on a tip off from the public, around 6.15 pm on 14 April, Villupuram police found him at Padalam near Chengalpattu to bring him back to Villupuram.
According to sources, officials will take appropriate measures to track his movements and contacts. He was said to be a migrant worker from Delhi.
