Chennai: After Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami chaired a meeting with top officials here today, the State government announced that prohibitory orders in the State will not be relaxed till 3 May.
The S Krishnan Committee, constituted to frame guidelines for opening of select industries after 20 April and for the way forward after the lockdown ends on 3 May, submitted its report to the Tamilnadu government today, based on which the consultations were held, highly placed sources said.
An official order issued after the meeting said the government has decided to continue with prohibitory orders till 3 May to check the spread of coronavirus.
Amid expectations that some relaxations in the lockdown would come into force from today as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Tamilnadu government on Sunday announced that all the restrictions put in place in the State would continue ’till further orders’.
An official release here said the Centre in its order on 15 April had announced that the States could decide on allowing functioning of new industries, commercial establishments and other services from 20 April and intimate the same to it.
Tamilnadu saw a significant spike in coronavirus cases on Sunday with 105 fresh positive cases, as the tally swellled to 1,477, even as 46 more patients were discharged, taking the numbers to 411.
An official release here said a total of 105 people, including a whopping 50 from Chennai, tested positive taking the coronavirus tally in Tamilnadu from 1,372 to 1,477.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke over phone to Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami last night on the COVID-19 measures being pursued in the State.
According to an official release, Palaniswami explained to Modi the steps, including prevention treatment and testing being done and sought more rapid test kits to the State.
‘The Prime Minister said the kits will be provided,’ the release added. Till date 1,477 have been infected cumulatively while 1048 were the active cases as on date, it said.
