TN creates record by testing 6,109 in single day thanks to rapid kits


Chennai: A total of 46,985 samples, including 6,109 on Monday–the highest so far in a single day–were tested so far and 1,520 have tested positive. Officials said these many people were tested thanks to the arrival of the rapid test kits.

Tamilnadu has 33 testing labs–23 government and 10 private–the highest in the country, officials said and added that samples tested using rapid test kits confirmed that there was no community transmission in the State.

Meanwhile, Chennai continued to remain on the top of the chart with 303 cases, followed by Coimbatore (133), Tiruppur (109), Dindigul (76), Erode (70), Tirunelveli (62), Chengalpattu (53), Namakkal and Trichy (50), Tiruvallur (48), Madurai and Thanjavur (46 each), Nagapattinam 944) and Theni (43).

Pudukottai reported the first Covid-19 case when the relative of a person who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat conference in Delhi tested positive.

Two more people died of coronavirus infection taking the toll to 17, even as 43 more positive cases were reported on Monday as Tamilnadu’s tally went up to 1,520 with 46 more patientsbeing discharged, taking the numbers to 457.
