Doctors in Chennai withdraw protest after dean’s assurance

Chennai: Doctors of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital decided to stage a protest today, demanding ‘basic amenities’ for those who were involved in treating coronavirus affected patients.

However, they dropped the decision following an assurance by the hospital’s dean that all necessary facilities would be provided to them. The dean said that all amenities including safety gear would be provided to them.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today interacted with a group of doctors and representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and appreciated their good work besides assuring them security, officials said.

This comes amid reports of attacks on healthcare workers and assaults on some doctors engaged in COVID-19 duties in different parts of the country.
