Chennai: Two persons were killed in separate incidents at Mylapore and Pallikaranai in the city yesterday and today morning, despite heightened security in view of coronavirus lockdown.
According to sources, in the wee hours of today, a man identified as Vasanth (17) of Kabali Garden, Canal Bank Road, Mylapore was walking near his house when he came under attack by a gang of five persons. They assaulted him with iron rods and murdered him. Mylapore police rushed to the spot and took him to a hospital. However, he was declared dead at the hospital.
In another incident, a man was killed while he tried to save his brother from a fight in Pallikaranai last night. The deceased was identified as Kirubakaran (24) of Periyar Nagar. He was an electrician.
According to the police, his brother, Thambi Ramesh, had scolded a few children playing on the street using harsh words. He also hit one teenage boy, identified as Johnny.
Later, an offended Johnny, along with his two friends came to Ramesh’s house to ask why he was hit. During an argument, Ramesh’s friend Lakshmanan hit Johnny on his head with a glass bottle. Johnny’s friends pacified him and took him away. .
In the night, the same gang returned and dragged Ramesh out of his house and began attacking him. To save him, Kirubakaran intervened. However, he was accidentally killed. He is said to have died on the spot due to blood loss.
His body was sent to Chrompet Government Hospital for post mortem. Pallikaranai police have registered a case
