Chennai: Of the total 2,058 coronavirus cases in Tamilnadu, 1,392 were men and 666 women. This included 121 in 0-12 age group (65 men/56 women), 1,697 in 13-60 age group (1160/537) and 240 above 60 years of age (168/72).
When asked about the reason behind Covid-19 attacking more men than women in the State, an official said, “the reason is simple. Men come out of houses more frequently than women during lockdown. In fact, these many women were infected mainly because of men in their houses.”
A total number of 27 people, who have tested positive, were on Tuesday discharged, as the number of cured patients increased to 1,128, taking the recovery rate to about 54.8 per cent.
Chennai continued to remain on the top of the chart with 673 cases, followed by Coimbatore (141), Tiruppur (112), Dindigul (80), Madurai (79), Erode & Chengalpattu (70 each), Tirunelveli (63), Namakkal (61), Thanjavur (55), Tiruvallur (53) and Trichy (51).
Till date 1,01,874 samples, including 7,093 today, have been taken and sent for testing, of which 2,058 tested positive, 97,908 samples tested negative, while testing of 1,908 samples were under process and 8,685 samples are repeat samples of same persons.
The total number of persons tested till date was 93,189 which included 6,850 Tuesday. In all 30,692 patients were under active quarantine and 47 under Government Quarantine, while 902 active cases were under treatment. In all 1,856 suspected individuals were under isolation wards.
