Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said essentials will be given to ration card holders free of cost in the month of June too in view of coronavirus lockdown and its effects.
Speaking to the media, he said the Tamilnadu government is waging a war against Covid-19 and the spread of the pandemic has been controlled due to right measures.
“All measures are being taken to protect people,” he said. Talking about the reason behind high number of cases in Chennai, he said, “since the population is high in the metropolis, the spread of Covid-19 is also high. Pandemic also spreads because of the use of public toilets,” he said.
He said hospitals with 4,000 beds are ready in Chennai and people need not panic for anything. According to the CM, the number of recoveries is also high in Tamilnadu and the Central team which recently visited the State has appreciated the efforts of the Tamilnadu government.
With Covid-19 cases increasing at an alarming rate in Chennai, Palaniswami has jumped into action and is leading the corona war from the front.
Today, he visited the Rippon Buildings, the headquarters of Greater Chennai Corporation and chaired a detailed review meeting with officials who are entrusted with Covid-19 duty.
“It was a micro-level review meeting and the CM wanted to know every minute detail. He urged officials to speed up steps and to bring the spread under control in a few days. He assured all support from the government,” sources said.
A majority of the cases were linked to the single largest cluster — Koyambedu Wholesale vegetable market in the city, from where the number of those testing positive continued to be on the upswing for the last couple of days.
