Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswai today ordered appointment of 2,570 nurses to intensify the State’s fight against Covid-19.
According to sources, 10 to 30 nurses will be appointed to every Taluk hospital and they will be roped in on contract basis for six months. It is said 40 nurses will be appointed to district and medical college hospitals.
This has come at a time when nurses who are fighting the Coronavirus pandemic have started an unique way of protest alleging thaty they are being underpaid. Many nurses hired through Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) and employed by hospitals on contract basis for years, are part of the agitation.
From yesterday till today, 8,000 nurses are sending emails to the State and Central governments asking for regularisation of salaries.
