Chennai: Today is the birthday of Edappadi K Palaniswami. But, the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and joint coordinator of the AIADMK has decided to spend the day without any celebrations, in view of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.
Sources said he has asked senior leaders and office-bearers to not visit him today. But this has not stopped party leaders and workers from greeting him, as they have been taking the social media route to send their wishes to him.
Palaniswami on Monday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to begin regular air and train services to the state until 31 May.
“I request you not to begin regular air services till 31 May. We know from the press that regular train service to Chennai and from Chennai will commence on 12 May. As the positive cases in Chennai are showing an increasing trend, don’t permit train and air services till 31 May,” he said during a videoconference with the Prime Minister.
He said he knows from media that regular train service to Chennai (from Delhi) and from Chennai will commence from 12 May. As the positive cases in Chennai are showing an increasing trend, it is not good at this time to allow train services to Tamilnadu, said the Chief Minister.
