Chennai: Chennai and its surrounding areas continued to witness deaths due to coronavirus.

Sources said a 60-year-old Bangladesh citizen who was getting treated for Covid-19 died at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city today.

Also, a man who had earlier attempted to flee from Chengalpet Government Hospital after he was tested positive for Covid-19 also died today. Though Tamilnadu’s mortality rate due to Covid-19 is 0.69 per cent, the deaths have been rising steadily over the last few days. On Tuesday alone, the State recorded eight fatalities, taking the toll to 61.

Out of this 61, Chennai alone accounts for 39 deaths. However, offcials say people need not worry about this, as both the cases and deaths would come down soon, thanks to the government’s aggressive measures.

“India’s case fatality rate now stands at 3.2 per cent. Among all States, the case fatality rates are lowest in Tamilnadu at 0.69 per cent,” they point out.
