Covid-19 situation: TN CM meets Governor

Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit and apprised him of the steps taken by the government to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Palaniswami, accompanied by Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar and Chief Secretary K Shanmugam met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan.

The meeting was held in the backdrop of exponential increase in positive cases, especially in Chennai.

Earlier, Palaniswami, who reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the city, attributed the high incidence of cases due to population density and said the government has intensified its efforts to control the spread.

He said only five persons were under ventilator support and there was no short of ventilators as the state has 2,741 ventilators at government hospitals.

Stating that the officials briefed him about the present scenario in Chennai, Palaniswami said the virus was spreading only in places that were crowded.

Except Chennai, where the population density was high and narrow roads contributing to the cases, spreading of the virus has been brought under control in other districts.

The government is taking all necessary measures to contain the spread, he added.

Relaxations were made in the lockdown based on the requests and suggestions made by various expert committees, he said and added that if people extended their full cooperation with the government normalcy would be restored in the city.
