Chennai: After two airport employees -one on Wednesday and another Thursday- tested positive for the virus, the Chennai Airport’s ‘operational offices’ have been closed effective Thursday till Sunday.
According to official sources, the closure will, however, not have any impact on the routine functioning of the airport.
As many as 16,447 samples were tested on Thursday which again is the highest number of specimens examined in a single day in Tamilnadu and totally 5,44,981 samples have been tested so far.
Meanwhile, Kilpauk Medical College Dean Dr P Vasanthamani has said most of those who succumbed to the viral infection were either brought in late or had serious health conditions.
Among states with more than 50 deaths, the doubling rate of the toll (based on the seven-day rolling averages) is the highest for Delhi (eight days), followed by Tamilnadu (11 days), and Maharashtra (15 days). The doubling rates are the slowest for Madhya Pradesh (28 days) among such states.
