Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today announced cancellation of class 10 board exams, which were scheduled to start from 15 June. He also said the pending exams for class 11 too have been cancelled.
“Based on requests from parents, considering the spread of Covid-19 and in a bid to protect the students from the pandemic, the SSLC exams are being cancelled. All students will be declared pass,” he said.
For Plus Two, he said the date for the pending exam will be announced later. He said marks for class 10 students will be awarded based on their performance in the previous exams and their attendance.
With the number of corona cases continued to be on the upswing, the Madras High Court on Monday said it would not allow the Tamil Nadu government to conduct the tenth standard board exams from June 15 risking the lives of more than nine lakh students.
On a plea filed by the TN High and Higher Secondary School Grade Teachers Association challenging the state government’s decision to hold the exams from June 15, a Division Bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R Suresh Kumar said, “we cannot allow the state to put the lives of more than nine lakh students at stake…this is not like opening TASMAC liquor shops during lockdown.”
