Chennai: DMK today filed an interim petition in the Supreme Court seeking a direction on the disqualification of 11 MLAs including Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam for voting against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami led government during the floor test in 2017.

Sources said that the petition was filed as the Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal had not taken any action against the legislators.

In an earlier petition filed by the party, the Supreme Court closed the case by saying that the Assembly Speaker will take a call on the disqualification issue.

In February this year, the Tamilnadu government informed the Supreme Court that the Assembly Speaker had initiated action on DMK petition alleging the Speaker did not act on a plea seeking disqualification of 11 AIADMK lawmakers voted against Palaniswami.

The 11 lawmakers included Panneerselvam. A bench comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant took note of the submission and disposed of the petition filed by the DMK.
