Chennai: Call it fate, today is the 62nd birthday of DMK legislator J Anbazhagan who died of Covid-19 here this morning. This has added to the agony of his supporters, who normally celebrate his birthday in a grand manner.
In a statement, the private hospital which treated him said, “The 61-year old MLA, who has been fighting for his life with severe COVID-19 pneumonia rapidly deteriorated early this morning.”
It added: “Inspite of full medical support, including mechanical ventilation at our Covid-19 facility, he succumbed to his illness.”
Anbazhagan, who had co-morbidities including chronic kidney disease was put on ventilator support on June 3 after his respiratory distress worsened.
After showing improvement, his health condition deteriorated significantly on Monday.
A staunch DMK loyalist and a good organisor, Anbazhagan was active in the party’s community outreach amid the lockdown.
