More Covid-19 cases & deaths in Chennai today: People not following rules

Chennai: Doctors who are working in the frontline have asked health and police departments to closely monitor the movement of people in red zones in the city as they are not practising social distancing norms.

This has come amid the metropolis witnessing more number of cases and deaths today. The victims include a doctor, it is said.

Currently, the city has hot the mark of 25,937. It has observed that in places like Royapuram, a high risk area, children were found playing outside without maks and people were moving around without taking any safety precautions and social distancing was not maintained.

As of this morning, Royapuram has recorded 4,405 cases of Coronavirus, the highest figures for an area in the city.

A press release from the Chennai City Corporation shows an area-wise break up of Covid-19 figures, with Tondiarpet standing at 3, 405.

Another risky area, Teynampet showed an increase in cases with 3,069 cases. Kodambakkam, another red zone area has 2,805 cases.

Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, a containment zone, has hit a mark of 2,456 cases. In Anna Nagar, 2,362 had tested positive for the viral infection.

Adyar has 1,481 cases of Covid-19. There are a total of 1,170 Covid positive persons in Valsaravakkam, 901 cases in Ambattur and 972 patients in Thiruvotrtiyur.

There are 724 patients in Madharavam, 521 in Alandur and 481 in Perungudi and 469 in Shollinganallur. Manali has the least number of cases with 383 patients.
