Chennai:Ahead of his video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday,  Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will hold a Cabinet meet at the Secretariat  in Chennai today.

According to sources, amid demands from various quarters to implement stringent  lockdown once again in Chennai and neighbouring districts in view of alarming increasing of Covid-19 cases, the Cabinet will discuss various measures to check  the spread of the pandemic.

Palaniswami, who will attend a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi  17 June, will also meet the State’s medical experts team before that to get their  inputs.

According to sources, based on the suggestions given by the Cabinet and the medical  team, he would discuss some crucial issues with the PM, on the present Covid-19  situation in the State.

Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of all States and Union Territories via  video conferencing on 16 and 17 June (Tuesday and Wednesday) amid the ongoing fifth phase of the lockdown, which will end on 30 June.

The Prime Minister is likely to hold fresh round of consultation with Chief Ministers next week as the country gradually emerges out of coronavirus-induced lockdown.

As per a notification, the Chief Ministers have been grouped into two categories.  While the first group will interact with Modi on 16 June, the Prime Minister will  entertain the second group on 17 June. On both of these days, the video-conference  will begin at 3 pm, it is learnt.
