United States: The United States has said it is closely monitoring the situation following a fierce clash between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh and hopes that the differences will be resolved peacefully.
According to a State Department spokesperson, “We are closely monitoring the situation between Indian and Chinese forces along the Line of Actual Control.”
The official added: “We note the Indian military has announced that 20 soldiers have died, and we offer our condolences to their families.”
In a statement, the Indian Army said that 20 of its soldiers were killed and that troops from both sides have now disengaged.
Anurag Srivastava, official spokesperson for the Indian Foreign Ministry, said, “On the late-evening and night of 15th June, 2020 a violent face-off happened as a result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo there. Both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had the agreement at the higher level been scrupulously followed by the Chinese side.”
