Chennai: Even as a new lockdown is to be imposed in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts from tomorrow, the Tamilnadu police continued with arresting those who step out for non-essential purporses during curfew time.
Till this morning, they have arrested as many as 6,57,399 persons for violating norms of curfew.
Police officials said that rules will be enforced in a more strict manner from tomorrow and severe action will be taken against violators.
The restrictions have been imposed across the State to curb the spread of Coronavirus since 24 March.
A press release from the DGP’s office said that 6,08,791 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts. As many as 4,78,714 vehicles were seized.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 13,38,01,229 has been collected from violators as fines since the first lockdown.
