Chennai: For the 12th consecutive day, petrol and diesel prices witnessed increase in the country.
In Chennai, a litre of petrol is being sold today for Rs 81.32 (up 46 paise) and a litre of diesel for Rs 74.23 (up 54 paise).
While the price of petrol was revised to Rs 77.81 per litre in the national capital from Rs 77.28 per litre the previous day, the diesel rate was increased to Rs 76.43 per litre from Rs 75.79 per litre, according to notifications from state-run Indian Oil Corporation.
State-owned fuel retailers IOC, BPCL and HPCL had frozen petrol and diesel prices since 16 March, before hiking it 12 days ago.
After falling down to just 30 per cent of the normal levels in April, fuel demand has now recovered to 82-85 per cent of pre-Covid levels with the phased reopening of the economy.
