Chennai: Post the death of legislator and party strongman J Anbazhagan recently, it looks like the coronavirus is haunting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the principal opposition party of the State.
While L Balaraman, the former secretary of party’s north Chennai unit, died due to Covid-19, Vasantham K Karthikeyan, the DMK MLA from Rishivandhiyam, tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.
Condoling the death of Balaraman, DMK president M K Stalin said in a statement that Balaraman was a hard worker and played a key role in ensuring the victory of former DMK president M Karunanidhi and former general secretary K Anbazhagan in the Harbour Assembly constituency.
“Balaraman had special affection for Karunanidhi and his sacrifices and contribution could never be forgotten,” he added.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old legislator Karthikeyan and six of his family had been under quarantine since 13 June when his wife and daughter tested positive. And, on Sunday, Karthikeyan and his mother tested positive.
Following this, the MLA, his mother, wife and daughter had been admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
Stalin tweeted saying that the MLA had worked tirelessly during the lockdown and had helped many people.
“Now he is being treated for Covid-19. I contacted him and he spoke to me with confidence. Soon he will recover and work for the public again,” he added.
