TN reports 2,710 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, CM undergoes test


Chennai: Touching a new high, Tamilnadu today witnessed an unprecedented 2,710 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of the State to 62,087.

Out of this, Chennai alone accounted for 1,487 new infections in one day. With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the metropolis, which is under lockdown, has touched 42,752.

While 1,358 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamilnadu today after recovery, the total recoveries in the State has touched 34,112.

Speaking to the media, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said Covid-19 test was conducted to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami too and he has tested negative.

He said there is nothing wrong in the Chief Minister saying that only God knows when coronavirus spread would end. “It is a practical opinion. Why is the Leader of Opposition getting upset over it?” he said, hitting out at DMK president M K Stalin.

Vijayabaskar said even experts were finding it very difficult to arrive at a judgement on coronavirus. “It is a virus which is invisible to our eyes,” he added.
