
Chennai: Personnel from the elite Commando force have been roped in to curb the movement of people during the lockdown in densely populated places in the city.
According to sources, the surge in number of Covid-19 cases has made officials to deploy the forces to ensure people do not venture out.
This is part of several Covid-19 containment measures, including setting up of control rooms.
Till now, the city has recorded 45,814 cases of Covid-19 and places such as Royapuram and Tondiarpet are categorised as high risk areas.
The Commando force will ensure that people do not commute and follow norms of social distancing.
Currently, the forces are stationed at Korukkupet. New Washermenpet and Royapuram, sources said.
Royapuram has recorded 6,607 odd cases and Tonadirpet 5,355.
