Rotary executes 2 global projects for Chennai hospital

Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan and Rotary office-bearers at the inangural of respiratory ICU.

Chennai: Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), along with Rotary Club of Irvine, USA, and Rotary Club de Rio Clara-Sul, Brazil, has executed two ‘large global grant projects’ to benefit the Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, Tambaram Sanatorium.

According to a press note, the new eight-bed intensive care unit will have eight motorised ICU beds and other necessary medical furniture, eight high end patient monitors, six ventilators, one non invasive ventilator, 11 syringe pumps, 11 infusion pumps, a high end bedside ultrasound and a portable bronchoscope with a bronchoscopy table.

Apart from this, four more patient monitors have been donated for the Covid quarantine unit along with 1200 Personal Protective Equipment kits, and a RO system for potable water. Medical gases pipeline system support has also been given with a new air compressor and oxygen and air pipelines and supply points, and suction machines.

The total funding of Rs 1.5 crore has been possible with funding from The Rotary Foundation and large donations from the Rotarians of RCME, MCKS Trust, Gurukripa Foundation, Crescent Engineering alumni, XLRI alumni, the Rajan Raghavan & Achal family Foundation and the TNK Trust, including separate funds from Star Health Insurance for renovation work.

The respiratory ICU was inaugurated by the Health Secretary of Tamilnadu, Dr J Radhakrishnan. He mentioned that NGOs like Rotary not only donate resources they also help in spreading awareness like social distancing, importance of masks etc which are so very important in fighting the Covid pandemic.
