Chennai: With 4,329 new infections in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Tamilnadu crossed the one lakh mark today and stands at 1,02,721. For the second consecutive day, the count crossed 4,000 today.

Out of the 4,329 new cases, 2,082 are from the capital city of Chennai, clearly indicating that the spread of the pandemic, which was once particular to the city alone, is now seen across Tamilnadu. The total number of infections in the metropolis now stands at 64,689.

As many as 64 Covid-19 patients died in various hospitals in the State today, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,385. On the other hand, 2,357 patients were discharged after recovery from different hospitals in Tamilnadu today. The total number of recoveries in the State now stands at 58,378.

With the total lockdown coming to an end on Sunday and relaxations coming into effect from Monday, the rising Covid-19 number of cases is a cause of concern. However, officials still maintain that there is no community spread in Tamilnadu.
