Thoothukudi: A 42-year-old woman and her kin were hacked to death, while her husband and son were seriously injured in an attack by an unidentified gang at Sivakalai near Eral in Thoothukudi district late on Thursday night.
Sources said the deceased were identified as L Pechimuthu (42) and her relative Arun (21).
Pechimuthu’s son L.Vignesh Raja (21) fell in love with a girl and they got married a few days ago, despite stiff opposition from the girl’s family.
A gang, armed with sickles, attacked Vignesh Raja, Pechimuthu, her husband Lakshmanan (50) and Arun indiscriminately near their house.
While Pechimuthu and Arun succumbed to multiple cut injuries, Vignesh Raja and Lakshmanan were admitted to Thoothukudi government medical college hospital in a serious condition.
Police suspect the girl’s family behind the double murder. Eral police have registered a case and are searching the assailants.
