Chennai: With Chennai reporting more than 2,000 Covid-19 cases everyday, officials point out at six urban clusters in the city, which are majorly contributing to the increasing nummbers.
“These clusters with cramped houses and narrow lanes account for 26 lakh people, which is more than the half the population of New Zeland. They continue to add up coronavirus numbers,” said a senior official.
Another official said, “Besides using common toilets at home or public toilets outside around, fifteen percent of the people here defy Covid-19 norms. But, we are educating them besides keeping a constant tab. Hopefully, the city’s numbers would come down in the days to come.”
As many as 4,329 people tested positive for novel coronavirus in the Tamil Nadu on Friday. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state stood at 1,02,721.
Coronavirus claimed 64 lives in the State Friday. The death toll from the pandemic increased to 1,385. With 2,357 people recovering from the disease Friday, the total number of cured coronavirus patients zoomed to 58,378.
Tamilnadu has tested 35,028 samples for COVID-19 today, the State health department confirmed. According to the official bulletin, there are 42,955 active cases in the State.
