: If the coronavirus cases in the State rise by the present levels, the total number of Covid-19 affected persons in Tamilnadu would cross two lakh in August, say health experts.
Asked about this, Health department officials said though it is true that the figures would touch two lakh if they grow as per the present trend, the department is doing its best to bring down the spread.
After recording the first case of Covid-19 on 7 March, Tamilnadu’s overall tally of cases breached the one lakh-mark on Friday.
Tamilnadu, the second worst coronavirus hit State in the country, on Friday crossed the one lakh-mark as 4,329 people tested positive for the highly infectious virus in a day. With an addition of 64, the State’s death count stood at 1,385, government data said.
It is to be noted that positive cases touched 50,000 only on 17 June. It means the State reported 50,000 new cases in the last 16 days.
