6 AIADMK leaders test positive for Covid, DMK not far behind


Chennai: Senior AIADMK leader and former Minister B Valarmathi today tested positive for Covid-19.

Valarmathi, who is also the Literary Wing secretary of the Party and Chairman of the Tamilnadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital at suburban Porur.

Her condition was stable, hospital sources said. She is the sixth AIADMK leader to test positive for the virus after the swab samples of four party legislators
and a Minister returned positive.

Earlier, AIADMK MLAs K.Palani (Sriperumbudur), N Sathan Prabhakar (Paramakudi), Tamilnadu Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan (Palacode), Kumaraguru (Ulundurpet) and Amman Arjunan (Coimbatore South) tested positive for coronavirus and were undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Apart from five AIADMK MLAs, four MLAs from the Opposition DMK also tested positive. They were R T Arasu (Cheyyur), Vasantham K.Karthikeyan (Rishivandhiyam), K.S.Masthan (Gingee) and J Anbazhagan (Tiruvallikeni-Chepauk).

Anbazhagan later succumbed to virus on 10 June. Anbazhagan was the first legislator in the country to fall victim to the pandemic.

Besides, a functionary each from the DMK and Congress also tested positive and succumbed to the virus.
