Chennai: The corona fatality rate in Tamilnadu surged past 1,500-mark on Sunday,  with 60 more patients succumbing, even as 4,150 fresh cases took the cumulative  tally of positive cases past the 1.10 lakh mark.

For the fourth day in a row the daily cases crossed the 4,000-mark, after the outbreak of the pandemic in the State in March, as the number of cases stood at  1,11,151.

Health Ministry in its bulletin said a record number of 13,41,715 samples were tested till date, including 34,831 samples during the past 24 hours.

As many as 2,186 COVID-19 positive patients were discharged after treatment on  Sunday and the number of recoveries till date was 62,778.

Presently, there were 46,860 patients undergoing treatment, including those in  isolation and all of them were under active medical supervision, the bulletin  said.

The recovery rate was 56.47 percent and the mortality rate 1.35 percent. Of the total 1,510 deaths so far, 1,054 were reported in Chennai alone, followed by  Chengalpattu 119, Tiruvallur 94, Madurai 62, Kancheepuram 33, Ramanathapuram 20,  Villupuram 17, Tiruvannamalai 15, Tirunelveli 9, Virudhunagar 8, Dindigul,  Sivagangai and Theni 7 each, Pudukottai and Vellore 6 each, Cuddalore, Erode,  Ranipet and Salem 5 each, Kallakurichi, Thoothukudi and Tiruchirapalli 4 each,  Kanyakumari and Karur 3 each, Krishnagiri and Thanjavur 2 each, Coimbatore,  Namakkal, Tenkasi and Airport Surveillance 1 each.
