Transwoman ends life after police seizes two-wheeler

Chennai: A transwoman killed herself after the police seized her vehicle after she was found roaming in Nungambakkam post the curfew hours.

A resident of Kamarajar Colony in Kodambakkam, Sabeena (19), shared an accommodation with her friends.

Last night, she along with three other friends stepped out on two-wheelers. They were stopped at Valluvarkottam and stopped by the police.

Police said, “We seized Sabeena’s vehicle and asked her to collect it the next morning. We did not ask her to pay any fine. She had hesitated to give the vehicle.”

This morning, Sabeena was found hanging in her room. Her body was taken to Government Kilpauk Hospital for postmortem and Kodambakkam police registered a case under section 174 of the CrPc.

Police said she was distressed as she allegedly took the vehicle without her friends permission.
