Chennai: While the cities of Chennai and Delhi continued to post less number of Covid-19 cases, when compared to the figures these metros reported a week ago, Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is finding it difficult to control the spread of the pandemic.
Maharashtra reported the highest number of new infections at 7,827, its third-highest single-day addition. Mumbai in the latest update reported 1,243 cases, contributing to 15% of the state’s addition. Delhi’s Covid-19 numbers continued to dip, with the capital reporting 1,573 cases and 37 deaths, a sharp drop from the 2,505 cases reported in the beginning of the week.
Maharashtra’s active caseload breached the one-lakh mark, with 1,03,516 patients now under treatment. Overall cases for the state also crossed the 2.5 lakh mark to reach2,54,427.
Chennai continued to record a dip on the number of fresh cases as 1,168 people tested positive for the virus totalling 77,338 till date. On Sunday evening, after a gap of a few days, the number of Covid-19 cases shot past the 4,000 mark in Tamilnadu with 4,244 fresh infections being reported, taking the tally to 1,38,470.
Sixty eight fatalities pushed the death count to 1,966, the Health department said in a bulletin. It said the number of recoveries continued to remain significant as 3,617 people were discharged after recovery.
Cumulatively, 89,532 patients have been discharged following treatment till date, while active cases, including those in isolation, stood at 46,969. A total of 16,09,448 samples have been tested to date, of which 42,531 were on Sunday alone.
