TN CMO staff members test coronavirus negative

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has tested negative for coronavirus.

An official release here said Palaniswami and all staff members and workers at the Chief Minister’s camp office were tested for coronavirus yesterday. The results received today showed negative. Also the samples of all the staff members and workers in his camp office also tested negative.

Three Ministers of Palaniswami Cabinet–K P Anbalagan, P Thangamani and Sellur K Raju–have tested positive for Covid-19 and were undergoing treatment at private hospitals.

The release said till yesterday samples of 15,85,782 people were tested for coronavirus in 105 labs across the State.

Though the number of positive cases continued to dip in Chennai, a total of 4,328 persons tested positive yesterday taking the State’s corona tally to 1,42,798 and fatalities crossed the 2,000 mark at 2,032. A total of 1,140 tested positive in Chennai yesterday taking the numbers to 78,573.

Amid rising Covid-19 cases, the State government extended the suspension of public and private bus transport services till 31 July. The government had earlier suspended the bus services till 15 July.

Meanwhile, Palaniswami would chair a meeting of the State Cabinet later this evening in which some crucial decisions were expected to be taken at the meet.

Amid significant rise in cases in several districts, issues relating to the lockdown, measures being taken to combat the spread of Covid-19 were likely to be discussed at the meeting.

The Cabinet was also expected to give the goahead for several industrial investment projects in the wake of lockdown relaxations announced by the government.

A decision on NEET exam, which was postponed due to the corona pandemic, was also likely to be taken in the meeting.
