National award winning directors, producers, writers and actors from Tamil cinema industry have appealed to the Central government to confer the Dada Saheb Phalke award on ace director Bharathirajaa on the occasion of his 80th birthday recently.
The letter has a list of accomplishments made by Bharathiraja in his career spanning 43 years in cinema. ‘His films addressed many social issues like unemployment, untouchability, caste war, female infanticide, women empowerment, social values and human relationship and created a cult following among south Indians,’ the letter read.
National award winners including Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, Dhanush, B Lenin, Dhananjayan are among 37 people, who have appealed to the government to confer Bharathirajaa with the award.
