Jaipur: The political turmoil that was triggered by Sachin Pilot’s rebellion is yet to die down. While the Congress has said it has absolute majority in the Assembly, the opposition BJP, however, claimed that only a floor test can decide if the government has a majority.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said it is the prerogative of the State Cabinet and the Chief Minister, and they will decide appropriately.

“To seek a floor test or otherwise is the sole discretion of the cabinet of Rajasthan and the chief minister. It is the domain of the chief minister and the ministers in the cabinet and the legislature party, and they will decide appropriately,” Surejwala said.

BJP leader of opposition in the state assembly, Gulab Chand Kataria, said only a floor test can decide whether a government has the required numbers to stay in power or not.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday called for amending the anti-defection law to ban all defectors from holding public office for five years and fighting the next election.

Sibal added that the ‘antibodies’ against the ‘virus of corrupt means’ to topple elected governments lie in amending the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution (anti-defection law).

He has said this in the wake of Pilot’s open rebellion against the Ashok Gehlot government, which has been on shaky ground since, with at least 18 legislators backing the rebel leader.
